چکیده

The porosity and wettability properties of hydrogen ion treated polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) materials are related using contact angle, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and ellipsometry tests. PTFE are irradiated using a low energy hydrogen ion shower (LEHIS) produced by a Gas Discharge Ion Source (GDIS). The plasma discharge current (Id) is varied at intervals of 1 mA. Results show that treatment using lower Id enhances the hydrophobic property of the PTFE material with contact angle value of as high as 118.6. It also becomes less porous as indicated by the increase in the index of refraction, decrease in optical transmittance, and increased scissions and striations in the SEM images. Opposite effects are observed for higher Id. PACS CODES: 81.65.-b, 68.35.bm, 61.80.-x, 68.08.Bc, 07.60.Fs

Enhanced wettability and electrolyte uptake of coated commercial polypropylene separators with inorganic nanopowders for application in lithium-ion battery

In this research, inorganic material type and content influence on coating of commercially available polypropylene (PP) separator were studied for improving its performance and safety as lithium ion battery separator. Heat-resistant nanopowders of Al2O3, SiO2 and ZrO2 were coated using polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) binder. Coating effects on the separators morphology, wettability, high tempera...

Wettability of Liquid Mixtures on Porous Silica and Black Soot Layers

Sophisticated manipulation of surface roughness and solid surface energy are widely used to design super-hydrophobic layers. In this work, we designed highly porous silica layer with contact angle (CA) of 145°, and its robustness was promoted with thermal treatment. Wettability of coated layer is studied with CA measurement for different liquid surface tensions using diluted organi...

Effect of Fluorination Treatment on Cotton Wettability, Dyeability and Mechanical Properties and Characterization of Surface Changes by XPS

Cotton fabric was treated with fluorine gas in a nitrogen atmosphere. The effect of fluorination treatments on wettability, whiteness index, dyeability and mechanical properties of cotton fabrics were assessed. Kawabata analysis shows that fluorination treatment increases shear stiffness G, shear hysteresis 2HG5, bending stiffness B and overall fabric stiffness Koshi on cotton fabric. Fluorinat...

The Impact of Wettability on Effective Properties of Cathode Catalyst Layer in a Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell

The produced liquid water in cathode catalyst layer (CCL) has significant effect on the operation of proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). To investigate this effect, the transport of oxygen in CCL in the presence of immiscible liquid water is studied applying a two-dimensional pore scale model. The CCL was reconstructed as an agglomerated system. To explore the wettability effects, diffe...

Evaluation of hydrophilic properties of acrylonitrile/acrylic acid copolymer films dendrigrafted with citric acid

The present study investigates the hydrophilic properties of acrylonitrile/acrylic acid P(AN/AA) copolymer films with various acrylic acid (AA) contents dendrigrafted with citric acid from zero to fourth generation numbers. It was found that the hydrophilicity of the dendrigrafted films was a complicated phenomenon. Various parameters such as intermolecular hydrogen bonding, roughness and activ...
